Best Time to Visit Kashmir: A Simple Guide for First-Time Travellers
Kashmir is beautiful in every season, but each season looks completely different. The best time to visit Kashmir is April to October for green valleys and pleasant weather, and December to February if you want to see snow. Here is a simple guide to help you choose.
Spring (March to May)
Spring is when Kashmir comes alive after winter. The snow melts, the valleys turn green, and the Tulip Garden in Srinagar opens, usually from late March to April, with thousands of colorful flowers. The weather is cool and pleasant, so it is perfect for couples, families, and photographers.
Summer (June to August)
Summer is the most popular time to visit Kashmir. While the rest of India is very hot, Kashmir stays cool and comfortable. All the roads and viewpoints are open, and the meadows of Pahalgam, Sonamarg, and Gulmarg look their greenest. It is the best season for a Dal Lake Shikara ride, a houseboat stay, and easy sightseeing. Since it is peak season, book your hotels early.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn is a hidden favorite. The chinar trees turn red, orange, and gold, and the apple orchards are full of fruit. There are fewer tourists, the air is crisp, and the views are perfect for photos. It is a great choice if you want a quiet, relaxed holiday.
Winter (December to February)
Winter is the season for snow lovers. Gulmarg becomes a white wonderland and is one of the best places in India for skiing and snow play. The weather is very cold, so pack warm clothes. Heavy snowfall can sometimes delay roads or flights, so keep one spare day in your plan.
